Say hello to Chuck. (Entry by Bob)
For all of you non-sports fans, please excuse the
next few sentences.
It's not often that I bring up sports but I just spent a few days in PA
(Eagle country) and NJ (Yankee country). I'm back home in Boston
and it has to be said. Does it get any better than this? Red
Sox win the World Series...AGAIN (yes I said the word again).
The Celtics have a team worth watching! Of course living near the
Garden, I liked it better when no one was watching. Now
there is that hockey team called the Bruins, but hey, no one's
perfect...except the Patriots!
Ok I'm done.
Here's the latest video blog. Just some thoughts on our trip to PA
& NJ
and some other tiny anecdotes you'll be glad you saw...
As mentioned in the blog, here's a live version of "Honesty" recorded
at Monmouth University.

Hello from PA! (Entry by Bob & Scott)
Greetings journal lovers. I'm sitting in a
hotel room in Philadelphia, PA having just finished a quick swim...gotta
love indoor pools!
Tickets are still on sale for our show on December 10th at the Paradise
Lounge. Do you have yours yet? If not, hit up the link on the
Nov 19th journal entry and we'll see you on Monday night.
So this hotel is actually pretty sweet.
The best part...free internet access. Checking some emails, chatting
on AIM, and of course, posting some video blogs:
As mentioned, here's a live version of "Hard to Miss" recorded
today at Penn State!

November 5th, 2007 - The New
Journal...good things are on the way. (Entry by Bob)
Hello hello hello. For the last 9 months our energies have been
focused on our album. Our thoughts, our free time, our creativity; all
of it was fixated on our newest release, "At the Seams." Well, it's
here...yes! To celebrate, we have a brand new website, brand new
ways of obtaining our music (iTunes, Napster, etc), and some brand new
destinations that our music will reach. But we also have some new ideas
for letting you guys in on this new chapter.
The first idea is what we like to call, THE CAHILL VIDEO BLOG!!!! We're
constantly on the road, always jamming in our apartment, forever
expanding on new song ideas, and we want to bring all of those moments
to you. It may be a short video of us rehearsing with the band. Maybe it
will be a quick hello from the road. Maybe it will be a video of Scott
trying to rationalize why he once again lost at Mario Cart to our
roommate Mr. Bergeron. Whatever it is, we'll be blogging! Here's a sneak
peak...
This doesn't mean the Journal will disappear. In fact, we have just
joined a site called Phanfare which actually lets us put up more
pictures than before. So the journal may start looking different, but
there'll be plenty of pics on the way. Speaking of which, here's a
handful of stuff to share.
About 3 months ago, we had the
pleasure of opening for Blessid Union of Souls. Check out some of the
highlights...
As you may or may not know, The Red Sox won the World Series. Oh, and guess
who was at Game One?? THAT WOULD BE ME!!!!! One word...magical! I've been to
Fenway Park quite a bit in my lifetime, but walking in for game one was like
walking into that gorgeous place for the very first time.
And if you weren't able to make the CD release party, enjoy some pics.
Well there you go...good things are on the way. and we look forward to
sharing them with you! Come back soon!

- Cahill, Album Two (Is this even necessary...you know who it is)
I don't believe we ever thought that warm weather would cancel a Faneuil Hall show, but when the temperature hit 96 degrees this past weekend, playing music outside was near impossible. I won't bore you too much with words about the weather, but it's because of the weather that I have a very funny story. As you may or may not know, we've recently relocated to Cambridge, MA and right down the street is a very interesting sprinkler system. Despite the usual age range that attends this watery paradise, Scotty, Max (our drummer) and myself decided to take over and "play" in the water. We joked about how we would kick the kids out and claim the water park to be ours. We were in there for about 5 minutes when suddenly 5 or 6 ten year-olds came barreling at us pushing us out of the way of the water. It had been awhile since we were picked on at the playground so we graciously conceded and left to fight another day. Be sure, however, this battle is not over!
On to more important matters...our SECOND album. You can start to spread the word about AT THE SEAMS. A ten-track disk with full band versions of some old favorites as well as some brand new sounds. Scotty and I are extremely excited to release it. At this point we're waiting on mastering as well as designs from our art guru, Ray Burgett. He'll be working with the pics that our photographer Anthony Tieuli took a few weeks back. Here's some of our favorites.
We haven't ironed out the details, but Scotty and I are very pleased to announce that we're going to be doing pre-sales. You'll be able to order and reserve your copy of AT THE SEAMS before it's official release. Which brings me to another fantastic piece of news...the CD RELEASE PARTY!!! The date is OCTOBER 12th at THE PARADISE LOUNGE. Thanks to our last performance and the fact that so many of you showed up, they're giving us a Friday night and it will be nothing less than spectacular. Supporting acts are yet to be determined, but please mark your calendars, spread the word, and order the tickets as soon as you can (online ticketing).
OH...and something else that has yet to be discussed is Cahill's first brush with a National Act!! We have been asked to open for Blessid Union of Souls. If you're not sure who they are, just listen to the track below and you'll be guaranteed to remember these guys. They're still around doing their touring and it'll be a blast to join them along their way.
"I Believe" (music: right click -> "Save Target As")
Faneuil Hall is still in full swing. Thanks to all those who have sent in pictures. We're organizing them and we'll post them soon!

June 21st, 2007 - Summer Days (entry by Bob)
Yes, I know. You've probably just uttered the words...it's about time! There's good reason though. Some exciting events have been taking place. First off, we moved into the heart of the city. We figured, since Faneuil Hall is going to be our "office" for the next 5 months, we might as well get closer. So we've just got settled into our our new home - Cambridge, MA. And we just acquired a new roommate - Brian Bergeron. As you can imagine, our apartment is filled with nothing but guitars. Last count, there were 15 lying around the living room. The best part is, we are approximately 2 miles from Faneuil Hall which means we'll be there a lot! And by "a lot" I mean whenever I can pull Brian and Scotty away from RBI baseball.
In fact, Faneuil Hall has officially begun. Summer is here and the crowds are slowly developing. Our playing schedule will be spread out during June, but after that, Quincy Market will pretty much be an everyday occurrence. So far we've met some fantastic people and very friendly fans. If you've seen us at Faneuil Hall and are visiting our website for the first time, welcome! We actually have received quite a few pictures from travelers who captured us on the street. So please, if you have pictures, email them to us - we'd love to see them!
Scotty and I also wanted to give everyone a big thank you! Our show at the Paradise Lounge was spectacular. Because of all of those who came out to support, we were offered another headlining spot for a Friday or Saturday night to celebrate our CD release! We really wanted to have it at the lounge, and now, thanks to you, it's going to happen!
Ah yes, the CD. As you can tell, recording has stopped and we're in what's called the mixing stages. This pretty much means that we're not doing anything for a while. Right now, Dennis, our producer, is alone, sitting in the studio, going through every song one by one. He's listening to every piece of music we recorded and slowly bringing them to life so that they have that booming sound you'd expect from a CD. Obviously, this takes a while. In the meantime, Scotty and I went on an album photo shoot, we've been tossing album names around, and pretty soon, we'll visit the studio one last time (with video camera in hand to get it all) listen to the final mixes, change any last minute things, and send it off to be mastered, printed up, packaged together, and ready for purchase! Because mastering and packaging takes a while, we're slated for a September release...and I can't wait!
I was going through some old studio videos and found some random stuff. Since we're nearing the end of the studio videos, I threw these together.

We're almost there...see you at the finish line!

May 3rd, 2007 - Back Safely! (entry by your favorite member of Cahill...BOB)
We're back!! I've known many people who have come back from Europe and they always say the same thing..."describing it won't do it justice, you have to go" I would always respond with..."yeah I know, I know, someday" Well, they were all right. I'm not even going to try and describe what this experience was like. All I can say is...you gotta go! We took hundreds of pictures. I've laid out an assortment of some of the better ones just so you can get an idea. And please note the bathroom picture. This is how Europeans mark their bathrooms...
Here's a short synopsis of what we did: We met up with our buddy Mike Farrell (www.poispinner.com) who is doing a show in Estoril, Portugal. Which, by the way, was an AMAZING show...we're so proud of you Mike! We spent 5 days in Portugal, traveling up and down, visiting Lisbon, seeing castles, and yes...we even played golf!
We then headed up to London. We were fortunate to meet 2 very hospitable travelers who let us stay with them and also showed us around. After an extensive tour of the Queen's playground, we then hoped a flight to Amsterdam. I can't go into detail about Amsterdam, but let me just say this...you've probably heard stories of the Amsterdam lifestyle...they are all true! After eleven days of Portugal, London, and Amsterdam, we arrived back in Boston.
Of course, since we've been back, a lot of exciting things have been happening. We got into the Faneuil Hall street performers once again. This means an entire summer of outdoor, cobblestone filled shows. We also got an exciting invitation to sign with a booking company called Wally's World of Entertainment. They are a very popular agency that are committed to college booking and to helping artists build a grassroots following. Two artists that we've always looked up to are also on the roster: Syd and Parker House and Theory. We're very excited to be a part of their musical family and will share all the details with you as things start to pick up.
Oh, then there's that other thing we've been doing...the album. After our European hiatus, we've had the chance to listen back to everything we've done and now we're in the picky stages. This means we REALLY listen to everything and add tiny little things, or take tiny things away. Pretty much we do all the stuff that no one else will ever notice...but it makes a difference...trust me : )
I feel like there's so much more to talk about. Just keep your eye open for Faneuil Hall performances. We also have a very fun show at
Focaccias in Wilmington coming up on May 9th. And then, a very exciting show on June 4th at the Paradise Lounge. Word on the street is that Cahill will be debuting their new band for the first time. So June 4th...might wanna mark that one down.
AND FINALLY...we've received many comments on Scott's beard video. Yes, it's all real, and yes, unfortunately, Scott had to shave. But fear not...we got it all on tape!
(movie: right click -> "Save Target As") Title: Scott Shaves
We'll talk again soon!
~ bob April 4th, 2007 - Off to Portugal (entry by Bob)
Today is the day! We're taking a 2-week hiatus from recording and playing and we're heading off to Estoril, Portugal. We're leaving the CD in excellent shape. Most of the vocals are done and we'll soon be entering the "mixing" stage...very exciting. As you may have seen, we're very surprised to find out that we still have a Faneuil Hall residency through May. As soon as we get back, we'll be hitting the streets. We'll also be involved in a very special benefit performance. Follow this link for all the details: www.flysophea.org.
So it's off to Portugal, then a stop in London, then in Barcelona, then home. A video camera will be present, so be sure to keep an eye out for European footage.
We're definitely excited...but we're also both a little nervous. We're not the best flyers, so a 10 hour flight over the Atlantic Ocean isn't exactly what I'd call a good time. It's ok though, we got our travel Boggle set so all will be well! If not, maybe we'll get lucky and we'll end up on an island and Evangeline Lily will be there, and the dude from Party of Five. And we'll run around and chase after the "others." Where ever we end up, we'll do our best to keep you posted!
Of course, this wouldn't be an official Cahill goodbye without some sort of video. As you may or may not know, Scott has been growing out his beard. It started out as laziness, but now has become the norm. It really is quite the sight to see.
So in the spirit of our Studio Videos, I'd thought I'd leave everyone with a short documentary on the wonders of Mr. O'Brien's beard.
This one's a little longer than usual, so give it some extra time to download : )
(movie: right click -> "Save Target As") Title: Scott's Beard
We'll see you all soon. Here's to stamps in your passport!

March 10th, 2007 - "Down" Time. (entry by the same person who has done journal entries for the last 4 MONTHS) I know, I know, you're all saying..."well it's about time!" The truth is, Scotty and I have been so busy with musical things, that we've neglected one of our most important musical things: keeping all ya'll entertained on the journal page. Consider this your entertainment.
Music update: We've been playing a lot of college shows (greetings to our undergraduate fans) and have sprinkled some clubs in here and there. As always, check out the shows page for info on where we'll be. We also played our very first show with Steve (See "Meet Steve") and we're hoping for more to come.
Studio update: We had a couple weeks off to step away from all the recording and just relax. We're back in full force now and both Scotty and I are extremely happy. We're down to vocals and what we like to call, "the bells and whistles" We finished tracking electric guitars and staying true to form, we've got a video for ya...
(movie: right click -> "Save Target As") Title: Electrics...Swell!
Personal update: Every true musician has to travel while they are making an album. Therefore, Scotty and I will be heading to Portugal to meet up with our buddy Mike (poispinner.com). We'll be making a few stops along the way, including Amsterdam, London, and Barcelona. You can guarantee that the video camera will be there and videos will fill the journal page. Besides that, there's nothing else major to report...oh, except that Scotty has decided to stop shaving his beard. I am now rooming with Chuck Norris (more on that later).
And one more little gem for ya. As much time as we spend recording, we also have "down" time. This is where Dennis is hard at work mixing, comping, editing, and saving all that we've done so far. During this time, we usually do one of three things: 1) Play RBI baseball on the original Nintendo NES system 2) Fall asleep on Dennis' couch 3) Grab guitars and jam out to one of our favorite musical groups, System of a Down. I present to you option #3...
Hope everyone is doing well. The studio has been wonderful as usual, and now that the bass guitar has been layered in, we're getting ready to move on to some electric sounds! We want to thank Steve, a fantastic bass player who was introduced to us through Dennis. I thought it would be nice for everyone else to meet him, so here once again is a short video to introduce you all to...Steve.
(movie: right click -> "Save Target As") Title: Meet Steve
And finally, I was going through a bunch of the footage we have from the studio and thought you might like seeing some of the things that happen when we're not recording. For example, here's a little video we like to call, "Tea?" Enjoy...
(movie: right click -> "Save Target As") Title: Tea?
We're about half way through, and the best is yet to come...stay tuned.

p.s. scott says hello : ) January 23rd, 2007 - State of Acoustics (entry by Bob)
We're back in the studio soon which means more updates to come. In the meantime, here's a short video of our days tracking acoustic guitars. So if the President's State of the Union got you down, here's something to lift your spirits...

January 16th, 2007 - Too Much Fun (entry by Bob - of course)
Greetings once again from the studio. Some updates:
1) So far things are sounding fantastic. We're right on schedule and our producer Dennis is very happy. Scotty (for those of you who don't remember, Scott is the other half of Cahill...he used to do journal entries at one point) thought it would be funny to play a trick on me and convince me that the first two weeks of recording time went way over budget and that Dennis was charging us for things we weren't aware of. Here's the story told by Dennis himself... (movies: right click -> "Save Target As")
Title: We Owe How Much? 2) The acoustic guitars are almost all in place. Just a few things needed here and there. I'm still working on gathering the footage we have from our tracking. A video will be posted soon!
3) Scott and I are realizing that tracking is VERY time consuming. It's so much more than just playing through the song once. Every note has to be right on, with the beat, in perfect tune, and have good dynamics. But sometimes we get on a roll and are convinced we can move quickly. Scott, who has been extremely efficient in his playing, was sure he could lay down his part for a track in a very short amount of time. Dennis told him he was crazy and so Scott took that as a challenge. Fortunately, I got it all down on video.
Here's a little 3-part series I like to call "15 minutes" Enjoy... (movies: right click -> "Save Target As")
Title: 15 Minutes (Part I) Title: 15 Minutes (Part II) Title: 15 Minutes (The Conclusion) We're going to be taking a bit of a break just to listen to what we've done so far and get refreshed. There's still plenty to come...
~ bob
January 9th, 2007 - Drummer Boy (entry by Bob)
At this point we should just give up on Scott and a journal entry. WAKE UP SCOTTY!!
Week One complete! Max has pretty much finished the drumming of our tunes and the foundation has been laid. Next up, guitars.
And as promised, here's some footage... (movies: right click -> "Save Target As")

More videos coming soon, but no promises of a Scott O'Brien journal entry. ~ bob-iloverecording-antonelli
