December 31st, 2006 - Out with old, in with the new.
(entry by Bob)

Let us note...this will be the third journal entry in a row by yours truly.  Just a little something to think about next time you're making your "favorite member of Cahill" list.

  Vote Bob : )

Before I get into Cahill stuff, have to make a mention about our good friend Mike.  He is a fire performer and has collaborated with us on many occasions.  Tomorrow, Mike leaves for Portugal where he will be working at the Casino Estoril in Estoril, Portugal as a fire spinner in a show entitled "Four - Spirit of the Elements."  This was a big dream for him and now for the next 10 months, he'll be living his dream.  Keep up with him at www.poispinner.com

We'll miss you Mike...       I'll be there in April : )

So there's so much stuff I want to share with everyone, so get comfy because I'm just gonna rant.  The month of December has turned out way better than I could've imagined.  We've played some fantastic shows, met all kinds of wonderful fans, and most importantly, we started a creative process with two fantastically talented people: Dennis Carroll and Max Zemanovic.  These guys make up the core of what will be our band for our brand new album.  Yes, that's right...our brand new album!  Let's start with Dennis...

Dennis is our producer and will also be playing piano for us.  His production credits include work with bands like Parker House & Theory, Waltham, Averi, and even Joe Perry.  We met Dennis through singer/songwriter Chad Perrone.  We've always had a great respect for Chad and his sound, so when he mentioned Dennis' name, we quickly made contact.  The best part was, Dennis quickly made contact back and was very willing and eager to lead the way on our newest project.  He does a million other things in the TV / movie industry, so we're lucky that he's found the time and effort to work with us.  He also loves the Red Sox...it's a perfect match.
We move on now to the drummer, Max...

The kid is incredible.  He plays like an old, seasoned professional and I'm pretty sure he isn't even 21 yet.  He loves to jam and create and he's the type of person who makes playing fun.  He's also a sick guitar player which is more depressing than anything else.  Fortunately, I don't think he can sing, so I still have a job...we'll see though.

So the reason I wanted to introduce you to our recording buddies is because Scott and I are going to be documenting as much of this process as we can so we can share it with you.  Now when you see everyone on film and in pictures, you'll know who they are.  We'll be recording on and off for the next three months and so they'll be plenty of pics and videos for your journal viewing pleasure.  In fact, to officially welcome our recording journey into the New Year, we present to you a short clip of what is to come...

Dec
ember 10th, 2006 - A Lazy Sunday
(entry by Bob)

It's about 60 degrees outside, I have nothing to do today, and the Patriots are playing...which means time away from Scott because when I mentioned that the Pats are playing he said, "Pats?  That's the Patriots right?"  And for those of you who are right now thinking, "Bob, stop picking on Scott."  I present to you Exhibit A:  Scott keeping me company while I drive us home from a late night gig...comfortable Scotty?  I'll be sure to bring you a pillow next time.

The other night we played a show at The Asgard (insert name jokes here).  The Bar itself is really nice and the people there were even nicer.  Many thanks to all who came out.   We had the unique pleasure of meeting some Cahill fans from South Africa...that's right, I said South Africa.  Cahill expands the globe (South African tour dates coming soon).  We'll be returning to the Asgard on the 21st.  As you probably know, we had to cancel another gig that night, so we replaced it with this one.  Consider it your Cahill Christmas present : )

And finally, seeing as this is the holiday season - a time for giving, sharing, and spending time with family - I thought I'd share with all of you a bit of my family.  You may not have known this, but my sister is a world renowned singer.  She keeps her talent pretty hidden, but every once in awhile, she lets it out...enjoy!

November 12th, 2006 - The NACA Experience.
(entry by Bob)

When Scott and I first started Cahill, one of our goals was to make it to NACA, the National Association of College Activities.  It's a gathering of every major college in the Northeast and they're all there for one reason...GET FREE STUFF.  CD's, T - Shirts, pictures, food...it's all on display in hopes to attract young college students to book their act at their school.  This past week, we were finally given the chance to attend.  It was quite the experience.  We met hundreds of people: students, bands, comedians, DJ's, people from recent episodes of The Real World.  There were so many different forms of entertainment, all on display.  Scott even had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Belding.  Yep, that's right, Saved By the Bell's Mr. Belding.

Imagine if you will, standing in line to use the bathroom.  Scott turns around and there he is.  With a smile, Mr. Belding tries to strike up a conversation with Scotty..."Long line," he says.  Scott now has the opportunity to make small talk with the most famous principal in TV history.  He turns and he says...

"yeah..."

Nice talking with you Scotty.

We didn't meet any more famous people, but we did meet lots of great students and hopefully we made enough of an impression to get ourselves some gigs next semester... we'll see.  I left you with some pictures from the weekend.  We had our very own booth with our buddy Brian Bergeron.  Who, by the way, is fantastic at darts.  Together we started a production company called Danger Room Productions (in honor of Scott's small obsession with X-Men).  Having Wolverine and Cyclops endorsing our music put us over the top.

Finally, we made a quick video explaining the basic rules of NACA.

November 1st, 2006 - I am Rambo!
(entry by Scott)

Let me start off by saying that where I lack in quantity of journal updates, I most definitely make up for in content.  Who posted the live tracks from Border's Books on the May 2nd journal? I DID!  Who posted the old school Bentley videos where Bob desperately needed a haircut? ME! Who is uploading ANOTHER live video and ANOTHER live track today? YOURS TRULY!

Ok, now that we have my rant out of the way...I have to share the events of my weekend with everyone.  I happened to spend my Saturday afternoon at the NRA headquarters in Maryland taking a concealed weapons training course.  Why?  Because I play more Halo 2 than any other person on the planet, and if you want to fire real handguns there is no better place to do it than an NRA firing range.  Many have claimed that I would never reap any benefits from the endless hours spent in front of my Xbox.  To them I say, please carefully review Exhibit A (my target at 20ft.) and Exhibit B (my weapon of choice, the Glock) :

Backtracking a bit, Bob and I also made a last minute trip to my parents' house for a Thanksgiving warm-up session.  Bob played photographer for the evening, with the sole intention of making your mouth water with anticipation for the upcoming holiday.  Even as I write this, looking at these pictures has me sadly reflecting on four consecutive days of ordering pizza.

Now onto all the Cahill goods...we have had a bunch of great shows in the last month.  Cushing Academy officially has the most condensed population of Cahill T-Shirt owners, and Bentley College continues to have the most hospitable audience we get to play for.  Thanks to both for being an absolute blast.

Finally, on to the new media promised above.  I've attached a new live cut of Mirror with a pretty cool intro we've been trying out recently.  Also, I've included a video of Different Breed (by request, no less) from Bentley College where Bob decides to get cute with the camera.

October 11th, 2006 - Boston, Khakis, & 911
(entry by Bob)

We've been playing Faneuil Hall since late May and unfortunately, our days in Quincy Market are numbered.  We have a few more scheduled dates that, cold weather permitted, will go off these next few weekends.  We want to thank everyone who has stopped by to say hello, bought a CD, a T-Shirt, signed the mailing list... you make it all worth it (Cahill loves Arizona!)

This last weekend was an extremely busy one.  Including shows at Faneuil Hall on Saturday and Sunday, we also had a performance at Kennedy's Midtown in Boston.  This started off as a typical show, some family (my cousin Maclean from the Vineyard and Steve and Sue...their first cahill show) friends, and fans.  But it ended with a 911 phone call.  A young Cahill fan, leaving the show, twisted her ankle on the curb and fell flat on her knee, shattering it!  A bunch of us rushed over to find this girl (Amy) lying on the ground, completely calm, but holding onto her knee which was facing the wrong way...not pretty.  The ambulance came, got her on the stretcher, and rushed her to the hospital.  We later found out that she had to have surgery.  Amy, wherever you are, we hope you feel better!!

Our weekend of performances was wrapped up with a very chill performance at a country club in Cranston, RI.  It was a fun show, but seeing as though it was a "members only" club, they had a very strict dress code...yes, we had to wear khakis.

Talk to you soon ~ bob

October 3rd, 2006 -
Say it Ain't So Joe.
(entry by Bob)

There have been times in our music career that we've played shows where we wish we could just forget they ever happened.
(i.e. The outdoor picnic concert featuring Blood Work - a Guns N' Roses, Def Leopard, and Black Sabbath cover band - and Cahill...that was a fantastic show.  We barely made it out alive, especially after we played Lazy Day...that went over REALLY well!)  Fortunately, there have only been a few of those.  Then there are the shows you never want to forget.  Saturday night at the Sky Bar was one of those shows.  We not only shared the stage with some talented Boston artists - Jen Murzda, Jude Nemo, Tommy Dempsy, The Tides - we also shared the stage with Mr. Joe Feloni, a dear friend who gave us one of our first gigs in Boston.

First off, we want to thank everyone who came out...Joe was thrilled to have his last night be completely filled with family, friends, and fans.  And for us, it was great to see some new and old faces...it always makes performing that much better.  We threw in some songs not usually performed like "Genuine" and "Unkind"  But it was our last song of the set that really made the night for us.  "All Along the Watchtower" with Mr. Feloni on lead guitar.  The man can wail on an electric guitar.  He and Scotty started playing off of each other and it was one of those moments where you wish you could've been up there forever.  Unfortunately, the night did end, as did Joe's reign at the Sky Bar.  We wish you luck Joe in everything you do!!

September 11th, 2006 - A Weekend to Remember.
(entry by Bob)

Usually our journal entries are filled with jabs between Scotty and I.  Seeing as though it was Scott's birthday last week, I thought I'd be nice...that and we played paintball together this weekend and our team kicked ass!  For those of you who have never played paintball before, it's like a real life video game.  You're all geared up, one team versus the other, ducking behind barriers, calling for cover, running as fast as you can hoping that a paintball doesn't catch up with you.  Unfortunately, sometimes it does and it's not pretty.

So there Scotty and I were...we were playing capture the flag and Scott and I were yards from it.  Paintballs were zooming past our heads.  For a moment the firing stopped and Scotty had a clear view of the opposing players.  He opened fire and gave me enough time to run for it.  I took off for the flag, slid in, just avoiding a spray of paint.  I took hold of the flag just as Scott took out two members of the other team.  We were clear, all we had to do was run...so we did.  Through the woods, all the way back to our home base.  Exhausted, we threw the flag on the ground and high fived in victory!  It was then, in the moment of our triumph, in the midst of our achievement, as
glory surrounded us, we realized...WE RAN THE WRONG WAY.  The flag was supposed to be taken to the other end of the playing field....oh well, we're just gonna stick to music.  And speaking of music, as soon as our Rambo fantasies were over, we had to run to Faneuil Hall for a show.  Needless to say, we were exhausted.  But it was a great end to a week full of shows including TT the Bears, MIT, and Holy Cross.  Hope everyone has a great week!

One more thing.  We usually never discuss serious topics, but unfortunately, today is the 5 year anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  So many lives were changed and if nothing else, we owe them the honor of just remembering...so keep it on your mind, tell someone you love them, and just remember.
    ok I'm done, thank you : )

August 24th,2006
- The Wedding of the Century!
(entry by Bob)

Here it is...A JOURNAL ENTRY!! For some reason we've fallen victim to the lazy, hazy days of summer.  As promised, I'm going to share with you my experience of watching my only sister get married.

Let me start by saying, yes I cried, and yes there is a video circulating of the speech I gave during the ceremony. Imagine if you will, 200 friends and family members gathered as I shared with Karyn the truest feelings of our life together as brother and sister. Telling her she has been my inspiration and my best friend. Basically, there's not a dry eye in the house...except one. Ladies and Gentleman, I give you the most unemotional human being on the planet...Scotty O'Brien. I went back to the Groomsmen line and every single one of them was in tears after my speech...except Scott...he had a smirk and a look on his face like...that was pathetic. But to be fair, he did come up to me later to compliment the speech...I guess he does have feelings.

All in all the entire wedding was indescribable. I used to be a videographer and so I've been to over a hundred weddings. Yes I may be a bit biased but, that was one of the greatest weddings in the history of weddings. The band was incredible, the guests danced up a storm, the location was gorgeous (as was the wedding party) so many friends were there...it was a non-stop party from beginning to end. In fact, the next day, a lot of us were feeling a bit depressed because we knew 1) that Karyn and Mark were in Mexico drinking and partying and 2) we were never going to have another party quite like that. Thanks to everyone who was there: friends, family...you guys made it a wonderful night.

Anyway, some cahill related stuff.  Faneuil Hall continues to be a blast. We've met so many people and have been visited by so many friends.  In fact, we wanted to show off our friend Olive and her creativity with a Cahill t-shirt. We've also posted a very short video of a typical afternoon in the Mah-ket.

July 30th, 2006 - Where have we been???
(entry by Scott)

A whole month without a journal entry?  I promise it isn't due to laziness...this has been just about the most hectic month ever.  Seriously! But we are going to make up for it with a couple of monster entries with new and old media alike, so enjoy!  Where to begin...

We'll start off with the 4th of July.  Once again, my annual Independence Day extended weekend bender (aka Finger's Fest) went off without a hitch.  This also served as the last party Marko would attend before becoming Bob's brother in-law.  Grilling, whiffle ball, combat tubing, golf - this weekend had it all...and here are some pics and videos to prove it.

And, of course, the best shot of the weekend caught on video:

(movie:  right click -> "Save Target As")

After Finger's Fest, Bob and I got right back into the swing of things with a long list of Faneuil Hall shows.  Our good buddy Sunish came out one night and took some photos for us...the full gallery will be on the multimedia page soon, but until then here are a couple shots that you can check out.

We also had the pleasure of sharing an evening at Bill's Bar with our buddies from Barefoot Truth on July 18th.  The crowd was great, and the night was an absolute blast...EXCEPT for the raging fire alarm that went off in the middle of Barefoot's set.  Massively unfortunate...but hopefully we will meet up with them again in Vermont this fall.

Here's a clip of Easily (with a little help from the audience):

Finally, as a little apology for the lack of journal entries, here are a couple of EARLY Cahill videos recorded in my dorm room at Bentley College.  I did a little digging and found these two videos particularly amusing.  After watching the first video, I thought  "Wow, I needed to cut my hair and trim those sideburns." Then I watched the second video, and saw Bob's hair.  You'll see what I mean...

That's about it...here's a little taste of Bob's upcoming entry about Karyn & Marko's wedding:

June 28th, 2006 -
Lotto Scotto
(entry by Scott)

Vegas baby!  I am just coming off of my second Bachelor-Party weekend in a row, and the toll it has taken on my body is finally starting to settle in.  Here are my past two weekends, in summary:

Total amount of sleep:   Less than 15 hours.
Total amount of alcohol consumed:  Enough to kill a small animal.
Total number of hours spent playing poker:  More than I care to remember.
Total number of horse shoe matches won:  Zero. I am dreadful.
Total amount of gambling winnings:  ...we'll get to that...

Las Vegas is basically everything you would expect it to be...I'll leave my experience at that.  Though I will say that three days of reckless abandonment in the gambling mecca of the United States is just about all that I can handle.  Here's a funny anecdote that some of you American Idol fans may enjoy:  I sat down at a poker table in the Flamingo hotel-casino, not realizing that William Hung was sitting right across from me!  What are the odds? As it turns out, they have been in my favor these past two weekends...

The Las Vegas bachelor party was followed by a Foxwoods bachelor party for Mark  "Bob's sister's fiancé / my high school and college buddy" Ruggiero.  All of us nice fellas in the wedding party gave him an Xbox 360 to sweeten the occasion, which will most certainly increase the number of visits made to his apartment in the coming months.

Now to address that last piece of information...gambling winnings.  I held my own against the likes of William Hung in Vegas, only to return home and get chopped up at Foxwoods.  Down and out, somewhere around 3am I limped onto a $15 limit "Let It Ride" table...just when things couldn't get any worse, I got dealt  8-9-10 of hearts.  What the hell...let it ride. With $45 on the table, the dealer turns over the 1st common card: 7 of hearts.  Oh man, let it ride.  With no hesitation, the dealer turns over the last common card:  6 of hearts...STRAIGHT FLUSH! My first ever!  I won't tell how much the payout was...but as the cliché goes, a picture says a thousand words...or was it thousands?

Other than that, we (Cahill) have been playing Faneuil Hall nonstop and should have some pictures for all of you shortly.  Thanks to everyone who has been coming out to see us recently...more to come soon!

June 12th, 2006 - Here we go Red Sox!!
(entry by Bob)

We usually dedicate this journal to music related issues.  I thought I'd break the mold for a minute and talk about Baseball.  Ah yes, Scotty's favorite subject.  I'm bringing it up for two reasons:

1)  I had the pleasure of visiting Yankee stadium this past Thursday to watch The Sox battle the Evil Empire.  My friend Judd and I took in the game and it was quite an experience!  Never before had I been in a place with so many Yankee fans.  Still, I wore my Sox cap with pride and, despite a few comments, I had no problems showing off my Boston roots.  That, coupled with the fact that we won, made the whole night a blast!  Thanks again for the tickets J&D!!

2)  David Ortiz is the greatest hitter of all time (I'm sorry but I have to give some journal time to this).  Yesterday, I got to watch (on TV) David Ortiz...Big Papi...hit a walk off home-run in the bottom of the ninth.  For those of you who missed it, we were down by 2 and there were 2 men on.  Ortiz had 2 strikes on him.  Texas was one strike away from victory.  But as always, Big Papi came through in the clutch.
He crushed a homer into the bleachers of right field...amazing.  As I've mentioned before, playing in Faneuil Hall has really made us feel like a part of Boston.  And you can't be a part of Boston, without loving those Red Sox.

Finally, we received some pictures of two very big Cahill fans showing off their love for the cahill t-shirts.  We love getting pictures like this or stories about the music, so please, if you got something to say, don't hesitate to send something in...you might just make it on the journal page!!
