Absolutely HUGE Audience

// September 12th, 2011 // No Comments » // Blog

Last weekend Bob and I stopped by Amherst College to play their annual “luau”…we thought it would be a few students hanging around drinking punch and wearing Hawaiian T-shirts. Little did we know that this was an absolute BENDER held every year on campus that is attended by (what appeared to be) every single student on campus and then some.

They rolled out caution tape.

They had a team of people working security.

And we were warned that it might get a bit “rowdy”.

“Rowdy” is an understatement. We played for about an hour and half, started off with mostly original tunes, and ultimately ended up hosting what became a glorified karaoke contest with a whole bunch of drunk students. We performed more poorly executed songs than I can ever remember playing before, and it was an ABSOLUTE BLAST.

I tried to grab a pic of the audience but unfortunately my iPhone didn’t seem to do the crowd justice…

College Season Arrives

// September 3rd, 2011 // No Comments » // Blog

It’s here again…with the arrival of September our performances in Faneuil Hall slow down a bit and the college shows start ramping up. We played our first college show of the month last night at the University of Maine in Orono. The crowd was great, particularly the sorority girls, and the event staff were probably some of the most accommodating we have ever worked with. Included below are a couple shots of the stage we played on and the subsequent theft of the spotlight by the ladies of Pi Beta Phi.

Scotty & Faneuil Hall Returns

// September 1st, 2011 // No Comments » // Blog

In case you weren’t aware, Scott has been out galavanting across the country.  He has, however, arrived home and just in time for our Sounds of Summer gig Thursday night!  We’ll be echoing the halls of Faneuil Hall starting at 5:30pm.  It will be a great welcome back for Scott, who as we know, gets pretty scared when he’s in the Midwest…

See you Thursday!

New Eyes on Pandora

// August 29th, 2011 // No Comments » // Blog

Our song “New Eyes” (the version from our At The Seams album) has been making the rounds on Pandora.  It seems every few days someone emails us or calls us and says..”Hey, New Eyes just came up on Pandora!”  As a result, the song is close behind “Until Then” as our most sold song on iTunes.  The fun part is hearing from new fans and people who are truly moved by the song…nothing beats that!  Then there’s the part where you’re searching YOUTUBE and you find that people have created videos to the song, displaying the lyrics and posting their love for the tune.  Here are two I recently found.  Thank you to YOUTUBE posters “semioticxcandy” and “sugarsyrop” for creating these videos…this is what it’s all about!

NACA Northeast 2011

// August 22nd, 2011 // No Comments » // Blog

Couple of quick updates…

1) Scott is somewhere out West and word is he got food poisoning. I’ll let him give you the details when he gets back.

2) As you saw from our last few blogs, we recorded ALL THE DRUMS for our new album. It’s an exciting new venture because this time around we’ll be producing, engineering, & recording everything in the Cahill Home Studio. Neither of us have drum recording experience so special thanks to Dennis @ 6Media AV for getting that part of the project taken care of. I have a bunch of clips from our days of recording there. I’ll post those soon!

3) Not sure if you know, but Scott and I tried VERY HARD to get picked this year in the NACA Northeast showcase. We brought in all the big guns: new press material, a new promo video. The hard work payed off because we got a slot! This is huge for us because being from the Northeast makes traveling to schools a hell of a lot easier!

Everyone loves videos, so here’s the promo video we made that helped get us in…

That is all…Happy August.

It Has Begun.

Sunday August 7, 2011.
Day One of recording our newest album.
We’re at 6media AV in Haverill, MA (Spot of where we recorded “At The Seams”) We set out to do 3 songs today. Not only did Max play three songs perfectly…he did 4. “Grace,” “Didn’t Know How,” “All I Really Want,” & “Tired Man.” Here are three video’s that capture the day…enjoy!

Too much fun!

Finding the Beat

// July 30th, 2011 // No Comments » // Blog

When working with our drummer Max we always start in the rehearsal room by listening to the demos and going back and forth with ideas. Sometimes Scott and I hear something but don’t have the drumming knowledge to correctly verbalize what we’re looking for. This means that from time to time we have to make noises and sounds to get our ideas across. Fortunately, Max is amazing and can actually translate what we’re spitting out.

Case in point, our new song “Don’t Know How.” It’s one of those tunes that doesn’t quite sit in a place where a drum beat is obvious. After a bunch of ideas and drum styles we weren’t quite there yet. Fortunately, as with all great creative moments, Max started on something that made me go…”ooh.” That in turn made Scott go…”hey!” Pretty soon, Scotty had this beat in his head and was trying to get Max to understand it. Here’s a glimpse into our creativity…

We start recording drums in the studio next week…SO EXCITED!
