I’m back from South Africa and although I’ve technically been in the States for nearly 3 weeks, I feel like I’m only just know getting back into the swing of things.

As you know, we’re producing, recording, and engineering our newest album. It’s all us…well, us and some friends…actually, us, some friends, and then Scott by himself in the wee hours of the morning comping and sound editing.

It’s wonderful to have complete control and all I can do is ask for your patience and understanding…it’s all us, and we’re taking our time

Here’s some footage, as well as some sounds…

Our showcase went VERY well. We started with our new original song, “If I left For A Year,” then we got the 200+ audience of college students to sing along with us to Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” … she would’ve been proud.

We have the rest of this weekend to schmooze with activity coordinators and try to be pushy enough that they book us, but not so pushy that they get weirded out. I think we’ve done both so far.

We have a booth that people visit…here’s a little tour:

Thanks to all those who have stopped by to say hello so far! Here’s to a successful 2012!

Bob here.

Each year I make a trip to South Africa. This year I’ll be gone for an entire month!! Very exciting stuff. I guess the only bad part is, I have to step away from the recording of our newest album. Of course the studio we work in is Scott’s room, so I’m sure he’ll continue to try things while I’m gone…(actually, I had to make him promise he wouldn’t finish the album while I was away).

We decided that before I leave, we would try and get the song that we wrote for my niece as finished as possible. I’m happy to say that it’s coming right along. We’ve tracked drums, bass, and acoustics. This last week we spent some time on the electric guitar. With this particular song, we knew we wanted some kind of electric guitar sound, we just weren’t sure what kind…so we “noodled” around…

The funny thing is, we ended up nixing that entire idea and going with something much more subtle.

Now this particular tune, “Grace,” has a chorus in which the acoustics and drums drop out completely. We both had an idea that the electric guitar should come in and break the silence. We didn’t know how exactly, but we both heard a heavy, buzzing, distorted note that would ring through. When you’re recording in your own studio and you have all the time in the world, you get to try all kinds of stuff. If it doesn’t work, oh well, at least we tried.

Fortunately, we think this idea is going to work. We’ll have to tweak it a little, but here’s us trying to discover that sound…

I’ll be gone soon, but starting in 2012, the yet-to-be-titled-do-it-yourself-cahill-album is going to be fantastic!

Finally, the fun part begins…we get to start breathing life into this new collection of songs that we are so excited about. I’ve attached a pic of our intricate home studio set up. It may not look like much, but believe me it has a very powerful sound and was very expensive to put together. We started tracking guitars for a song called “The Way It Should Be”.

I am very very excited. But then again, I am always excited when this part arrives.

As you may know, we’ve started production on our 4th yet-to-be-named studio album. But this time, it’s our OWN studio. We did use the talents of Dennis Carroll at 6-Media to record our drums, but besides that, everything else on this record is going to be down in-home…a true do it yourself album (or as we label it, D.I.Y).

With the drums finished, we brought Steve into our studio to record bass. Now that that’s done, everything is in place to begin tracking acoustic guitars, electric guitars, piano, cello, vocals and who knows what else. This is a D.I.Y project, so we’re going to move at a relaxed pace and make sure everything goes EXACTLY as we want it to…and why not? It’s our own studio!

We’re both VERY excited to get started and to see what we will create.

The other night we were listening to the drums, percussion, and bass tracks. I was able to sneak in this video…enjoy!

As we move into the second week of October, Bob and I are still going strong with Faneuil Hall. We had our best day of 2010 around this time last year, and it is starting to look like this wasn’t a fluke…

We played a full 2-hour set today in Faneuil, sold out of CD’s, and met a bunch of cool people (as well as some distant family). I think this was the most fun we have had in months. Attached is a pic I grabbed of Tall Heights playing their set directly after ours this afternoon.

Hello to all of our new listeners…

The rhythm section for our upcoming album has been completed! Drums were tracked in early August, and this past weekend bassist and all-around-good-guy Steve Belleville came over to lay down some chops. He plowed through ten tunes in under two days time, and I think we really captured some excellent performances.

Next step is some comping of the bass and drums parts together, then start gearing up for what will be the long, creative, fun, and stressful undertaking that is acoustic guitars.

A couple pics attached below…
